Seachem Prime Ultra 250ml Water conditioner for 10000l
PRIME is a concentrated water conditioner for both freshwater and marine aquaria. It neutralises chlorine, chloramine and ammonia, turning it into a non-toxic form that is quickly removed by a biological filter. Can be used during the maturation process of the tank to reduce ammonia and nitrite levels. By binding nitrates and nitrites, it facilitates their removal by biological filters. It also neutralises heavy metals present in tap water. Accelerates the production and regeneration of the protective mucus layer on the fish's body. It is non-acidic and does not affect the pH of the water. It does not overtax the skimmer. It is recommended to add it when setting up a new aquarium and every water change.
Many companies produce preparations to neutralise the chlorine in the water, but none are as effective as the Prime produced by Seachem. It is the second most concentrated water conditioner after the AquaVitro Alpha from the same manufacturer. A 100 ml pack is enough to treat almost 4 000 litres of water. PRIME contains a compound that converts ammonia, nitrites and nitrates into a non-toxic form.
The action of all treaters is based on chemical processes called reduction reactions. Toxic chlorine (Cl2) dissolved in the water is transformed into safe chlorine ions (Cl). The reduction reaction also breaks the bonds between the chlorine and nitrogen atoms in the chloramine molecule (NH2Cl), causing the chlorine atoms to be released and replaced by hydrogen, resulting in the ammonia molecule (NH3). At this stage, most of the usual treatments stop working, leaving a large amount of dangerous ammonia in the water. Seachem has taken this a step further by adding an ammonia-binding compound to Prime.
Buying the right type of conditioner should be well thought out. If your tap water contains chloramine, classic preparations based on sodium thiosulphate may not be enough. Prime stimulates the production and regeneration of the protective mucus layer on the body of the fish, and has the advantage (especially important for marine aquarists) of not overloading the protein skimmer.
Directions for use:
use 1 capful (5 ml) for every 200 litres of water being prepared,
this dose makes it possible to remove 1 mg/l of ammonia, 4 mg/l of chloramine or 5 mg/l of chlorine,
smaller doses: each notch of thread on the inside of the cap corresponds to a volume of 1 ml,
the preparation can be poured directly into the aquarium (adjusting the quantity to the volume of the aquarium), but it is better to add it to the tank in which the water is being prepared for the water change,
a sulphur smell is normal,
when chloramine concentrations are particularly high, a double dose may be used,
when the nitrite level in the aquarium rises sharply, a dose up to five times higher is considered safe,
when the water temperature is higher than 30 degrees and the chlorine or ammonia level is low, half of the recommended amount can be added.
